1. Cleaning the Pushchair
Winter often leaves behind dirt and grime in all the nooks and crannies of your pushchair. A thorough cleaning not only makes it fresher but also extends its lifespan.
Here’s how to do it:
- Fabric parts: Remove and wash the fabric according to the manufacturer's instructions. If the fabric isn’t removable, you can use a damp cloth and mild soap to clean it.
- Frame and wheels: Wipe down the frame with a damp cloth and some soapy water. Clean the wheels carefully, removing any mud or gravel – use a brush to get to hard-to-reach areas.
- Harness and handle: Wipe down the safety harness and handle with disinfecting wipes or a cloth with mild soap.
2. Lubricate and Adjust the Pushchair
After cleaning, it’s a good idea to check that all parts are functioning properly.
- Wheels and suspension: If the wheels squeak or roll slowly, lubricate them with silicone or Teflon spray.
- Brakes: Test the brakes to make sure they’re working properly and adjust them if needed.
- Folding mechanism: Ensure that the pushchair folds smoothly and that no parts are stuck.
3. Switch to Spring-Suitable Accessories
As the temperature rises, it might be time to replace some winter accessories.
- Lighter seat liner: Swap out the thick winter footmuff for a thinner seat liner or blanket.
- Sun protection: Attach a sunshade or UV protection to shield your baby from the spring sun.
- Mosquito net: Spring brings more insects – a mosquito net is perfect for keeping bugs and small critters away.
4. Store Winter Accessories Properly
Wash and dry the winter footmuff before packing it away. Store gloves, extra blankets, and other winter accessories in a box so they’ll be ready for next season.
5. Perform a Safety Check
Before heading out on your spring walks, check that everything is in good condition:
- Do the brakes work as they should?
- Is the harness intact and adjusted correctly?
- Are all screws and nuts tightened?
- Is the pushchair stable and comfortable for your child?
